Obama appoints María Echaveste as the new US ambassador to Mexico

María Echaveste, 60, is the daughter of Mexican immigrants.

US President Barack Obama nominated María Echaveste on Thursday as the new US ambassador to Mexico.

In case the Senate confirms it, Echaveste, 60 and the daughter of Mexican immigrants, will replace the current ambassador Earl Anthony Wayne and will be the first woman in that position.

The designation has been the product of a long consultation process.

Her origin, her experience in positions of responsibility in the White House since the Clinton era, her career as an expert and defender of immigration reform and civil rights, and her close relationship with Hillary Clinton could have been the factors on which she has based the Obama administration for your selection.
